Pinch Pleat will be the largest collaborative project for Luke Styles (composer) and Ilona Jantti (choreographer/aerialist). It builds on their previous works; Handspun commissioned by the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in and performed in over 10 countries world-wide, and Polar commissioned by Shunt and Jackson’s Lane Theatre.
Pinch Pleat will be more ambitious in scale and scope. It will be 50min and for a larger ensemble of 6-8 performers. It will use a variety of circus equipment (ropes, hoops, silks, floor work) and musicians. The musicians and circus performers will all be present in the performance space and will interact together, physically.
The music and movement of Pinch Pleat will be abstract but intimately connected, allowing physicality and sound to fuse together and lead the audience on a theatrical journey of contrasts and extraordinary circus skill and music, brought together in an intensely theatrical event.
This event is a chance to get a sneak preview of Pinch before it’s world premiere later in 2020.
